Woodwind Chamber Music Series Grades 6+, must have at least one year experience playing an instrument Instructed by Shauna Righellis, this series serves to provide students the opportunity to continue performing music over the summer through small group experience. Students will be placed in a performing group that best suits their instrument and ability level. The series focuses on tone production, intonation, expression, precision, reading, and listening skills at a level that is may not be addressed in regular school band. Students enrolled in the Chamber Music Series will meet for 45 or 120 minutes per week (depending on age level) for the entire summer and have opportunities to perform in the community. Dates/Times: June 18 – August 22, (schedule subject to changed based on students personal schedules) * Beginning Woodwinds (6-7 grade): Tuesdays, 9:00-9:45am, Fee: $200 (includes materials) * Intermediate Woodwinds (8-9 grade): Wednesdays/Thursdays, 10:00-11:00am, Fee $300 (includes materials) * Advanced Woodwinds (10-12 grade): Wednesdays/Thursdays, 5:00-6:00pm or 9:00-10:00am, Fee: $300 (includes materials) |
| Brass Choir CampGrades 6+, must have at least one year’s experience playing a brass instrument
Instructed by Lena Meyer, this engaging summer program meets twice per week for one hour and is focused on building strength and endurance for brass musicians, as well as performing chamber music. Students will be learning to master long-tones, scales, and arpeggios; the fundamental building blocks for all brass playing. Students will also perform as a brass choir. This camp is open to brass players of every age group and is a great way for students to dramatically excel their performance skills over the summer. Although the sessions takes place every week, students can come and go into the program as needed throughout the program. | Jazz Combo and Improvisation Summer Series
Ages 13+, at least one year of jazz experience preferred, students should know most major scales before registering Taught by Todd Holway, this course is designed for the young aspiring jazz musician who wishes to gain experience in jazz improvisation in the setting of a small jazz combo. We will cover how the musician navigates a jazz “lead sheet”, how to create intros, endings, interludes, how to know what scales may be used to improvise over the changes, and how the player interacts in a small group setting. Many styles played in the jazz combo setting include swing, latin, rock, funk, reggae, etc. Emphasis will be on performance and the combo(s) will be actively gigging this summer!
